Supermodel Kate Moss is 32 going on 18 and I’m not talking about her appearance. Emotionally, she seems to suffer from the drama queen syndrome that tends to afflict teenage girls. Thankfully, most women are through it well before the end of their 20s.
Kate’s eternal state of adolescence is the only possible explanation for her bizarre devotion to the no-hoper Pete Doherty.
It is hard to imagine a less attractive prospect than Doherty. He looks like a slightly spotty, ashen-faced, lanky overgrown schoolboy who has just returned from a particularly unfortunate visit to the hairdressers. His conversation consists of incoherent burbling and his lifestyle is a textbook example of seediness.
So what does the extraordinarily beautiful and successful Kate Moss see in him?
I suspect it’s a classic example of a pampered woman who only wants what she cannot have. Doherty is incapable of commitment which is exactly why Kate Moss continues to pursue him. Doherty is a just another drug; she is addicted to the roller coaster of emotions which he provides. A relationship which is full of lows inevitably also produces highs. Last week Moss took her family and friends to Bali where they were told to expect a special celebration. Apparently, the supermodel had planned a Balinese-style spiritual ceremony to seal her partnership with Doherty. At the eleventh hour, the singer failed to show up as he was ordered into a rehabilitation clinic following his arrest for possessing class A drugs. Kate is said to be devastated and is now being comforted by her circle of friends and hangers-on.
Kate Moss’s face was first plastered all over magazines when she was a teenager. She has been feted ever since and her huge income removed her into a rarefied world where they only thing worth striving for was the next thrill.
Motherhood should have been her salvation. But when you hand your baby over to teams of nannies and carers, it doesn’t have the same impact that it has on most women. Kate is still emotionally a baby herself. They say it can be a curse to get everything that you wish for. In Kate’s case, that means the James Dean wannabe Pete Doherty.
